Arabia Saudita, Egipto y Grecia anunciaron en conjunto que retirarán su candidatura al Mundial 2030, argumentando la imposibilidad de hacer frente a desafíos gigantescos de infraestructura a los que no serían capaces de cumplir. El retiro también llega en una semana donde la CAF (Confederación Africana de Fútbol) anunciara su apoyo unánime a la candidatura de España, Portugal y Marruecos.
Con esto, sólo quedan dos candidaturas en pie: la sudamericana y la ibérica, esta última aún siendo la favorita para ganar.
