Referee Pete Morelli met with pool reporter Todd Archer of ESPN.com and explained why and how the call got reversed. He also made clear that face-guarding is not a foul in the NFL, although many people are under the assumption is it.
Here's the transcript, via a tweet by the Detroit News' Josh Katzenstein:
Archer: Can you talk about the decision to overturn the call and why you overturned the call.
Morelli: The back judge threw his flag for defensive pass interference. We got other information from a different angle that thought the contact was minimal and didn’t warrant pass interference. He thought it was face-guarding.
Archer: Which official?
Morelli: The head linesman.
Archer: What did you see?
Morelli: It’s not my responsibility. I’m a hundred miles away.
Archer: Face-guarding is not a foul?
Morelli: Face-guarding is not a foul. It is a penalty in college but not in professional football.
Archer: What is the process you go through after you announce the call? Should you have waited before you announced the call?
Morelli: Probably, yes. The information came and then the officials got together a little bit later, after it was given to me, the first information. It would probably been smoother if we got together.

St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke plans to build an NFL stadium in the Los Angeles area of Inglewood, The Los Angeles Times reported early Monday morning.
Kroenke and his partners, Stockbridge Capital Group, announced to The Times their plans to build an 80,000-seat NFL stadium on the site of the former Hollywood Park racetrack, adjacent to the refurbished Forum. It’s the strongest indication yet that the league is planning to return to the area it left two decades ago.
Stockbridge Capital owns the 238-acre Hollywood Park site, while Kroenke purchased 60 acres near the site a year ago. The duo announced the stadium will be funded entirely with private money and could be completed by 2018.
"We are excited to unveil an expanded plan that will bring a world-class sports and entertainment district to Hollywood Park," Terry Fancher, founder of Stockbridge, told The Times in a statement. "We are committed to working with [the Kroenke Group] to build a project that will put Inglewood back on the map as home of the truly great sports and entertainment venues."
The move puts Kroenke in a unique position since the Rams can choose later this month to convert their lease in St. Louis to year-to-year. The Rams and the city have been locked in a sometimes-nasty battle about the Rams’ home stadium, the Edward Jones Dome, which opened in 1995 and is outdated by NFL standards.
The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have also been previously linked to the Los Angeles area. The Chargers announced last month they would remain in San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium for at least one more season, while the Raiders have publicly flirted with the idea of moving to San Antonio and Los Angeles while in the midst of tense negotiations with the City of Oakland.
There had been rumors that one of the three teams would attempt to move prior to the 2015 season, but Roger Goodell announced the league would be accepting applications for next season. A league source told ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio in late December that the teams agreed not to try to move this year.
Kroenke’s plan has the support of Inglewood mayor James T. Butts Jr. and the group told The Times they plan to gather signatures soon in order to place the project on the Inglewood municipal ballot in 2015.
"This will hasten the time for the citizens of Inglewood to get the project they deserve," Butts told the paper. "This is something they have waited for for a long time."
Los Angeles has been without an NFL team since both the Rams and Raiders left following the 1994 season.

)

Playoffs expanded to 14 teams 'inevitable'
A change to the NFL's playoff format is on the horizon and Mike Florio gives his take on the inevitability of it all and calls for fans to weigh in on ProFootballTalk.com.
